5 Loaves and 2 Fish

A few days ago, I was sharing with friends about us giving our 5 loaves and 2 fish to Jesus.

This morning God brought my attention to this song by Corrine May about 5 loaves and 2 fish. God is reminding me to trust Him with my 5 loaves and 2 fish and to remember His promises to me that He would feed 5000 and we have 12 baskets to pick up.

I was ministered by these lyrics:

Take my fears, my inhibitions, all my burdens, my ambitions.
You can use it all to feed them all

I often think about that boy when I’m feeling small
And I worry that the work I do means nothing at all
But every single tear I cry is a diamond in His hands
And every door that slams in my face, I will offer up in prayer

The same day when we were having Monday morning company worship, my colleague shared that he had recently given a sermon on 5 loaves and 2 fish. He was preaching on the disciple who had taken the loaves and fish from the child. The child who gave up the food has his child like faith. The disciple who took it required faith too. We adults could quite easily dismiss the child that his givings will not make a difference. In fact we might be well meaning and advice the child to eat it himself as he needs the food more as a growing child. It required faith to accept the little giving and give it to Jesus.

It is the combination of the child’s child-like faith and the adult’s faith, both giving to Jesus, which then allowed Jesus Himself to perform the miracle. This miracle is important to us to remember in our faith journey.

I was reminded that as I receive other’s 5 loaves and 2 fish, I will need to accept it and give them to Jesus, for Jesus to perform His miracles.
