Fathering

20 May 2023

Attended meeting arranged by Derek and Clifford with Jason Wong.

As the conversation goes on, Jason was saying he really doesn’t know much about the family situation in Indonesia.

I was sharing some anecdoctal observations about fathers and the main situations I observed around me. From the two spectrums of wealthy families to the poorest families. In between it’s a mix.

Jason was suggesting that someone on the ground to spearhead a Fathering movement but starting small. And of course this sort of dropped onto my plate.

Following this, Jason recalls a contact who had spoken to him about bringing Dadsforlife to a school here in Indonesia. And of course with all things divine, it’s our son’s school. 🙂

Immediately later, we realised the contact was in the same bible class with my wife.

Heritance folks were really excited at the divine arrangements and I’m always glad people taste the Lord.

On my end, my default response to new things is always “no, but if God leads…” because I have way TOO MUCH stuff on my plate…

Sometimes I think to myself and to God: “Lord, you see me very up hor haha”

Derek and Clifford joined me at JICF for Sunday service. Towards the end of service, Derek introduced as coming for missions trip with Jay.

After that, a lady came up to us and introduced herself as the lady we were whatsapping about Dadsforlife in Jakarta. Turns out she worships at JICF too, and just like that we met in person.

God spoke about families. See Promiseland; families; revival

As God was leading for a focus of Malachi 4:5-6, I kind of knew this year we have to start something for Fathering. Brother D pointed out to me that:

“John the Baptist had the primary calling of Baptizer and Calling for Repentance, but also a secondary calling of a Family Restorer similar to Malachi 4:5-6. So when you said Yes to God’s call for families, I relate this way: Just like John, Ruang Atas has a primary calling of a repentance ministry and a secondary calling of a family restorer.”

“See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.” (Malachi 4:5-6)

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. 16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:13-17)

This is very interesting and aligned as one of the two pillars of Ruangatas was indeed revival through repentence and I knew that the Lord wants me to preach repentence.

During my CNY trip back to Singapore I took the chance to meet with two fathers involved in the Fathering scene. The meeting gave me new learning and equipping and I can roughly visualize the next step I need to take for this in Indonesia.

Mar 2024

God opened doors and a master trainer from Singapore reached out, we chatted and he connected me to more people in this space, including a church and school in Bandung. I ended up joining Jason Wong and another dear Singapore brother when they came to Bandung. As such I met that church and the church’s school’s leadership. Also had a good fellowship with the two Singapore brothers along with my family.

My main takeaway was my assignment from God in this space is a little different. It is embedded in all the other things God placed with me. Not really just “importing” the programs and workshops from Singapore but I must know them well because we all work together in the same space God has called.
